If you find yourself caught in cycles of self-criticism, feeling “too much” or “not enough,” or believing your body must change before you can feel worthy of respect or compassion, this approach offers another way.

Rather than focusing on changing your body, this intensive helps you get to know the parts of you that hold extreme beliefs, emotions, and behaviors related to food and your body. You’ll learn how they came to think, feel, and behave this way, and what keeps them stuck in these patterns.

Through guided reflections, live demonstrations, and experiential exercises, you’ll support the parts that criticize, control, or disconnect from your body in considering new roles. As these parts build trust in you, you’ll gain greater access to your Self: the calm, compassionate wisdom already within you. Your choices about food and your body can then be guided less by fear and shame and more by what you truly want and need.

If you’d like to learn more about the principles that guide this program, including its IFS-informed perspective on intentional weight loss, you can  read this article.

Because this is a live, experiential small-group program, you’ll have opportunities for personal reflection, guided exercises, and shared learning in a supportive environment.

The Heart of the Work

Our relationships with food and our bodies are shaped by family messages, cultural biases, and protective strategies parts of us adopted to survive and belong. These strategies often appear as self-criticism and shame, restriction, bingeing, or efforts to change the body in order to feel safe, accepted, or worthy.

This intensive offers a spacious, IFS-informed environment to explore the parts of you that focus on or disconnect from food and your body. Instead of fighting or eliminating your protectors, you’ll be invited to notice what happens when you meet them with appreciation for how they’ve been trying to help you.

This program assumes participants already have experience identifying and working with their own systems. This foundation is essential for creating a safe learning environment where the group can engage deeply in the vulnerable work of transforming their relationships with food and their bodies.

Your Learning Journey

Participants will be supported to:

  • Learn how family and cultural legacy burdens shape your relationship with food and your body.
  • Befriend key protectors in your system and learn about the parts they protect.
  • Address protectors’ fears to build greater trust in the Self.
  • Develop increased collaboration among the parts of your system that focus on food and your body.

Who This Program Is For

This program is designed for IFS-informed or IFS-trained therapists and non-therapists seeking a deeper experiential exploration of their relationships with food and their bodies.

This is not an introductory IFS program. Participants should have an established understanding of the IFS model, experience working with their own internal system, and be able to unblend and speak for, rather than from, their parts.
